Every parent should join the Chaminade Alumni Parents Association once his or her son graduates from Chaminade, regardless of whether or not you have other sons who are, or may in the future, attend Chaminade. Our focus is maintaining the connection between parents of alumni and Chaminade High School, which has done so much for our sons.
CAPA hosts a number of wonderful events throughout the year. Beginning in September, a Mass and Dinner is held where the portrait of the most recent graduating class is unveiled in the cafeteria. It will hang there before moving to its place in the hallway the following year. This is a special event, particularly for the parents of our most recent graduates. This is followed by a Fall social event. Some events we have had in the past are a dinner cruise around Manhattan, a trip to a vineyard and a day in Manhattan. A Family Communion Breakfast in November with a special guest speaker is always a great time for parents and their families.
In the winter, CAPA hosts a Jazz Night with cocktails, dessert, and a performance by the Jazz Band and Vocal Ensemble and a Dinner Theater event for the Saturday performance of the Spring Musical. CAPA also hosts a beautiful Day of Recollection at Meribah in March. This is a day of prayer, reflection, and friendship. The CAPA year concludes with the CAPA Barbecue held on the Science Center rooftop!
These wonderful events provide a great way for us as parents to stay connected, involved, and simply enjoy camaraderie with old and new friends. You can become as involved as your schedule allows, but we invite you to take advantage of the opportunity to “cross the bridge” from Parents Club to CAPA upon your son’s graduation! Should you have any questions about membership, registration for upcoming events, or you’d just like to hear more about CAPA, please do not hesitate to contact us at (516) 849-8631, or jeanne.umland@gmail.com.
