60+ clubs and activities

Nine out of every ten Chaminade students are involved in an after-school activity. Their education and camaraderie doesn’t end when the school day does. All students are eligible for participation in school activities. View the featured clubs below and click on the tabs to learn more about those offered at Chaminade.

Student Publications

Our literary magazine, Skylight, newspaper, Tarmac, and yearbook, Crimson & Gold, allow students to get involved in telling the story of their four years here.

Language Clubs

World language clubs give students the chance to further pursue the cultural and linguistic aspects of the language that they are studying.

Culinary Club

Students meet monthly to learn the basics of kitchen skills and food preparation and to practice new recipes to share with family and friends.

Science Olympiad

One of several science and research offerings at Chaminade, Science Olympiad utilizes the resources of the Dolan Family Science, Technology, and Research Center to prepare students for New York State and national interscholastic competitions.

Activities

Alphabetical

The App Development Club introduces students to programming, application design, and user interface development. Members explore real-world technology challenges while developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

The Art Club offers students the opportunity to explore creative expression through a variety of artistic media. Members receive individual instruction and contribute to schoolwide art projects and service activities.

The Aviation Club introduces students to various aspects of aviation through lectures, guest speakers, videos, and field trips. Students also have the opportunity to use professional-grade simulators at the SUNY-Farmingdale Aviation Center.

The Bagpipe Band trains students in the Highland bagpipes and drums, welcoming both beginners and experienced players. The band performs at school functions and helps preserve a unique musical tradition.

The Band program includes three concert bands and a Jazz Band that perform at the annual Christmas and Spring Concerts and at other events throughout the year. Practices are held daily as a regular part of the school schedule. Members are also required to take individual, weekly music lessons scheduled during school hours. The weekly thirty-minute lesson fee is $26.00 and is paid directly to the music teacher. Band members participate fully in New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) activities and the Nassau Music Educators Association (NMEA). The program regularly sends students to All-County and All-State concerts.

Bridging Generations fosters meaningful connections between students and senior citizens through service, conversation, and shared activities. Members visit local senior centers to engage in games, storytelling, and community events that promote intergenerational understanding. The club emphasizes empathy, respect, and the value of learning from the experiences of older generations.

The Business Club prepares students for future careers in business by fostering leadership, communication, and teamwork. Members engage in professional networking and gain exposure to real-world business concepts.

Catholics for Life is dedicated to promoting the sanctity of life at all stages, from conception to natural death. Members engage in discussions, retreats, adoration, and service events that focus on defending the rights and dignity of all people.

The Catholic Literary Society explores theological and philosophical themes in the works of C.S. Lewis and other authors. Students meet weekly to read and discuss selected texts, fostering spiritual and intellectual growth.

The Chess Club welcomes students interested in learning or playing chess. Members participate in intramural games and may qualify for the interscholastic Chess Team, which competes against other schools.

Open to all students, Chorus performs both sacred and secular choral music at concerts, school liturgies, and other events throughout the year. Practices are held daily as a regular part of the school schedule. Members are also required to take individual, weekly music lessons scheduled during school hours. The Communications Club offers students hands-on experience in broadcasting and public speaking. Members serve as announcers for the school’s televised morning and afternoon announcements.

CROSS is the student section of Campus ministry that helps facilitate the mission of bringing Christ to the student body. Members are fed through their own spiritual formation in order to feed their peers through the retreat program and a variety of other spiritual events before and after school.

The Culinary Club teaches students the fundamentals of kitchen safety and food preparation. Monthly meetings offer hands-on experience, with attendance based on available space.

Chaminade’s Drama Club, the Darby Players, provides students with a comprehensive theatre experience, including acting, stage management, set design, costumes, and pit band performance. The club typically produces both a play and a musical each year.

The Economics Club promotes interest in finance, investments, and economic theory through guest speakers, field trips, and access to the Bloomberg Business Center. It provides a platform for students to explore academic and career paths in business and economics.

Element Media engages students in photography, video production, and digital content creation. Members plan, produce, and distribute media that support the school and showcase student creativity.

Emmaus engages students in service to the Church, school, and wider community. Volunteers participate in activities such as visiting the elderly, assisting with retreats, and supporting campus ministry events, while deepening their faith through active service.

Students assist in distributing the Eucharist during school Masses. Through special training, they deepen their understanding of the Eucharist and serve as spiritual leaders within the Chaminade community.

ETV members are responsible for the production and broadcasting of morning announcements, as well as the recording of school performances and educational content. Students receive training in digital video production using professional equipment.

The Faustino Club is an organization for young men considering a vocation to the priesthood or religious life. It is named after Venerable Faustino Perez-Manglano, a teenage Spaniard whose diary, “Maybe God Will Speak to Me,” provides members with a template for vocation discernment. Members meet once a month, attend retreats, and travel to religiously significant sites in the tri-state area.

The Fishing Club offers students the opportunity to learn about fishing techniques, equipment, and environmental conservation. Members participate in fishing trips, seminars, and discussions focused on responsible outdoor recreation. The club promotes appreciation for nature, sportsmanship, and sustainable fishing practices.

Flyers Story Time is a service initiative in which Chaminade students assist with the after-school program at St. Martin de Porres Marianist School. Participants engage with younger students through reading, crafts, games, and other enrichment activities. The program promotes literacy, mentorship, and a strong sense of Marianist community between the two schools.

The Friends of St. Dymphna is Chaminade’s mental health awareness group named after the patron saint of those dealing with stress, anxiety, and other mental health issues. Members of the club organize school-wide activities that encourage students to engage in good mental health practices.

GSO coordinates apostolic, recreational, charitable, and social events throughout the year. Participation fosters personal responsibility and community involvement among student volunteers.

The Golf Club enhances students’ understanding of the game through outings, instructional videos, contests, and rules education. Members participate in spring golf events and practice sessions during the winter.

The Hiking Club gives students the opportunity to explore nature through organized hikes across trails in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Most hikes are day trips, though some include overnight camping experiences.

Endowed in memory of Philip C. Kantz, Jr., Hospital Volunteers provides students with the opportunity to volunteer at local hospitals, contributing a minimum of 35 service hours in departments such as X-ray, physical therapy, and emergency care. Participation is coordinated with community hospitals, and students may also serve in their home communities.

Students form teams to participate in after-school intramural competitions. Members of the Intramural Officials Club referee these games after learning rules and officiating techniques through clinics and on-field experience.

The Investment Club introduces students to the fundamentals of investing, financial markets, and portfolio management. Members analyze real-world economic trends, track market performance, value public companies, and participate in simulated investment competitions. The club fosters financial literacy and strategic thinking, preparing students for future academic and career opportunities in finance and economics.

Jam Band brings together students who are passionate about live music and collaborative performance. Members gather weekly to play a wide range of musical genres, focusing on improvisation, creativity, teamwork, and fun. The club also participates in “Jam Nights,” where students perform alongside alumni musicians in a spirited celebration of musical talent and community.

World language clubs give students the chance to further pursue the cultural and linguistic aspects of the languages they study. Students build their appreciation of different cultures through discussions, games, celebrations of holidays, field trips, guest speakers, film, and more.

Skylight is Chaminade’s literary magazine, featuring student-created poetry, short stories, essays, photography, and art. The publication provides a creative outlet for expression and artistic development across all divisions.

The Literary Club invites students to deepen their appreciation for great literature through group reading and open discussions. Members explore the works of influential authors and engage in meaningful literary dialogue.

Marianist LIFE (Living in Faith Experience) is a nationwide faith formation program rooted in the Catholic and Marianist traditions. Members of the CHS LIFE Team take a week out of their summer to attend a leadership and faith formation retreat with students from other Marianist high schools around the country. Based on Blessed Chaminade’s vision for building communities to change the world, students, upon their return, serve as leaders in the Chaminade Campus Ministry Office to assist in strengthening the faith lives of their peers.

The Math Club, Mu Sigma, fosters a deeper interest in mathematics through challenging problems, tutoring opportunities, and academic competitions. Members may qualify for the Math Team, which competes in county and state-level math leagues.

Math Research offers students the opportunity to conduct independent or collaborative mathematical research. Members develop original projects for academic competitions and deepen their analytical skills.

The Medical Club provides students with insight into medical sciences through experiments, research, and guest lectures. Topics include anatomy, medicine, forensics, and related fields, with presentations by alumni and local professionals.

The Music Club promotes an appreciation for diverse musical genres and themes. Open to students with basic musical knowledge, the club fosters music appreciation beyond performance or classroom instruction.

The National Honor Society (NHS) recognizes students who excel in scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Membership highlights a commitment to academic excellence and meaningful contributions to the school and local community.

Tarmac is Chaminade’s online student-run newspaper. Students contribute through writing, editing, photography, and layout design, covering school events and current topics relevant to the student body.

Endowed in memory of Philip C. Kantz, Jr., the Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) invites sophomores, juniors, and seniors to teach religious education at local parishes with support and supervision from Chaminade faculty. Daily instructional training and an annual retreat prepare student instructors for effective service.

The Physical Fitness Club trains upperclassmen to assist younger students in using Chaminade’s fitness center. Members lead instructional clinics, develop workout routines, and promote healthy exercise habits.

The Production Crew manages the lighting, sound, and technical elements for school events, including Masses, assemblies, concerts, and theatrical productions. Students gain experience in stagecraft and audiovisual technology.

The Robotics Club teaches students to design, build, and program robots for competitive challenges. Members work in teams to engineer solutions and participate in interscholastic robotics competitions.

Endowed in memory of Philip C. Kantz, Jr., Sacristans provides students with the opportunity to prepare and assist with all aspects of school liturgies, including setting up sacred vessels and vestments. Their service ensures a reverent and smooth celebration of Mass and other religious ceremonies.

Students on the School Store Staff assist in retail operations by managing inventory, stocking merchandise, and supporting store functions. The store also receives support from parent volunteers.

The Science Club encourages interest in science through lectures, field trips, and hands-on activities. The club sponsors school science fairs and promotes critical thinking, environmental awareness, and technological exploration.

Science Olympiad is a multidisciplinary team competition focusing on biology, physics, engineering, and environmental science. Students develop teamwork, problem-solving, and research skills as they compete in regional and state events.

Science Research supports student-led research in a state-of-the-art lab facility. Members collaborate with local hospitals and research institutions and submit projects to local and national competitions.

Senior Leaders mentor freshmen beginning with 3-C Week orientation and throughout the year. They provide support, guidance, and encouragement, helping younger students integrate into the Chaminade community.

The Social Studies Club engages students in discussions and debates on historical and current global issues. Activities include strategy games, guest speakers, and field trips to historical and civic sites.

Sodality is a Marianist spiritual group dedicated to prayer, service, and community. Weekly meetings, retreats, and apostolic activities help members deepen their relationship with Christ and Mary.

The Robert C. Wright Speech & Debate Team develops students’ public speaking and argumentation skills. Members compete at local, state, and national tournaments in a variety of speech and debate events.

Sports Media provides students with opportunities to broadcast athletic events and explore sports journalism. Members produce content, including game highlights, interviews, and commentary, to support school athletic programs.

The String Orchestra performs at the annual Christmas and Spring Concerts and at other events throughout the year. Practices are held daily as a regular part of the school schedule. Student Ambassadors welcome prospective families and guests to Chaminade. They serve as role models and communicators of the school’s values and programs.

The Student-Athlete Leadership Program (SALP) develops leadership, integrity, and sportsmanship among student-athletes. Members mentor younger students and participate in outreach programs, promoting positive decision-making and teamwork.

Open to Chorus members by audition, the Vocal Chamber Ensemble performs at school concerts and special events. Recent performances include St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, Rome, MetLife Stadium, and annual performances at Carnegie Hall. The group rehearses after school and offers students an advanced choral experience.

The Woodworking Club teaches students the fundamentals of carpentry and cabinetmaking. Members work on school and individual projects, gaining experience with both hand and power tools.

Crimson and Gold is Chaminade’s annual yearbook, documenting the school year through writing, photography, and design. All students receive a digital copy, with seniors receiving a printed edition. The staff manages production and advertising efforts throughout the year.

Guidance and College Placement

The Guidance Department offers its services as an integral part of the educative program sponsored by the school. The Department assists students in their goal-planning, decision-making, and personal development through counseling and other various programs.

Counselors often consult with teachers, parents, and others significant in students’ lives. In addition to a full-time staff of counselors, three social workers are also on staff.

The College Placement Office maintains liaison with the directors of admission at various colleges, universities, and United States service academies. The Office sponsors a program for every major school to which our students apply. These programs offer the student an opportunity to meet with the admissions officer from the various schools.
