It is with deep respect and heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Lawrence M. Pinto, Chaminade High School Class of 1944, who died on May 21, 2025, at the age of 100. A proud alumnus, decorated Marine, and devoted family man, Larry embodied the values of courage, faith, and service throughout his remarkable life.
Born on April 7, 1925, Larry graduated from Chaminade High School in Mineola, New York, in 1944. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, serving with distinction in some of the Pacific Theater’s most harrowing battles, including Saipan, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. His bravery and commitment to his fellow Marines exemplified the highest ideals of military service.
Following the war, Larry continued his dedication to his country by serving in the Army Reserves for 38 years. His military career was marked by unwavering loyalty and a deep sense of duty.
Larry’s connection to Chaminade High School remained strong throughout his life. He was a familiar presence at Gold Star Masses, honoring alumni who made the ultimate sacrifice, and he participated in numerous alumni golf outings, often alongside his close friend Jack Lenz. His enduring commitment to the Chaminade community served as an inspiration to generations of Flyers.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Alice “Barrie,” their six children—Kathleen Cooper (Roger), Josephine Spelman (Eugene), Michael (Lori), Elizabeth Boghosian (Thomas), Thomas (Carolina), and John (Christine)—as well as 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. His legacy of love, service, and faith lives on through his family and all who knew him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, May 30, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Raphael R.C. Church in East Meadow, followed by interment at Calverton National Cemetery.
As we observe Memorial Day weekend, we honor Larry Pinto’s extraordinary life and his steadfast devotion to God, country, and Chaminade. May he rest in peace, and may his memory continue to guide and inspire us all.
