Chaminade High School announces the appointment of Ed Smith ’89 as the school’s first-ever Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Mr. Smith brings more than 33 years of experience in financial leadership, with deep expertise in financial planning, fiscal oversight, risk management, and long-term financial stewardship. His career has been defined by strengthening financial controls, ensuring accountability, and guiding organizations with disciplined and sustainable financial practices.
Chaminade High School, a Catholic Marianist college preparatory school in Mineola, New York, has a long-standing tradition of academic excellence, character formation, and community engagement. As the school continues to grow, the establishment of the CFO role reflects a commitment to strong financial governance and the responsible stewardship of resources in support of its mission.
Mr. Smith, a CPA, has been deeply engaged with Chaminade for many years. He currently serves on the Board of Advisors and is the Executive Chairman of the Chaminade Golf Classic. His prior service includes serving as President of the Alumni Association, Torch Fund Chairman, and, for many years, as the varsity hockey team head coach.

In his role as CFO, Mr. Smith will report to Bro. Thomas Cleary, S.M. ’81, President, and will work closely with Chief Operating Officer Brian Crimmins ’95, Principal Robert Paul ’92, and Chief Academic Officer Greg Kay ’98. He will oversee all financial functions of the school, including budgeting, financial reporting, investment and endowment, and relationships with banking and insurance partners. His focus will be on ensuring the institution’s long-term financial health, stability, and integrity.
“Adding Ed to our leadership team as CFO is an important step for Chaminade,” said Bro. Thomas. “His expertise in financial stewardship and disciplined resource management will help ensure that we continue to operate from a position of strength as we support our mission.”
Dick Kearns ’68, Chairman of the Board of Advisors, added, “Chaminade has grown into a large family business, and strong financial leadership is essential. Ed brings the experience and judgment needed to grow our resources and ensure long-term financial stability alongside an outstanding leadership team.”

Mr. Smith shared, “I am beyond humbled to start the final chapter of my career at a place I have called ‘home’ since 1985. As the father of two graduates, I know firsthand the impact of a Chaminade education and its return on investment. I look forward to collaborating with an exceptional leadership team and making a significant impact as Chaminade approaches its centennial anniversary.”
Chaminade High School remains committed to providing a transformative education while maintaining a strong and sustainable financial foundation. The appointment of Ed Smith as CFO reinforces the school’s dedication to responsible financial stewardship in support of its mission and future.
