Dear Parents, Students, and Faculty,
Whew! We did it!
When I say we did it I mean all of us: teachers, parents, and students. We successfully completed the 2019-2020 academic year — one that we will not soon forget.
I first must say thank you. These times, unprecedented in so many ways, tested our abilities both as a school community and as individuals. To be completely honest with you, I had my own down days and found, often, that Sunday afternoons were a bit challenging, with the prospect of another "week" ahead of me. But, my concerns pale in comparison to so many stories of hardship and struggle that so many more were enduring. I know our collective prayers helped sustain all. We pulled together, stepped up, and rethought possible!
As I write this, I am reminded of a favorite quote of mine from NASA engineer Daryl Woods:
Responsible to the element, accountable to the mission.
During these past three months, each of us needed to be responsible for his or her specific role (as teacher, staff member, parent, or student) and accountable to the mission of Chaminade High School. Woods went on to explain: "You have to play to your position and understand what every other position does and how you fit with the team." I think we did that as a team extraordinarily well! Yes, we had some missteps along the way. But, when you misstep, you learn to pivot to making things better. I think we did that too.
So, mark this year down in the books. But, we are not done.
Over the last three months, the faculty and administration have been heartened by the resolve of our students to continue their studies while away from the school building, their teachers and classmates. Chaminade would like to extend opportunities for continued learning into the summer by offering a series of academic enrichment programs. Some of them are co-curricular, while others are of general interest. We hope that your son will be able to participate in a number of these programs. Click here for a full list of enrichment programs, as well as, summer reading and advanced course assignments.
Wishing you all a healthy, holy, and happy summer! Rethink possible!
Go Flyers!
