Dear Chaminade Family,
Celebrating the Feast of the Holy Trinity yesterday, Pope Francis said: God created the world good, beautiful but, after sin, the world is marked by evil and corruption. We men and women are all sinners; therefore, God could intervene to judge the world, to destroy evil and punish sinners. Instead, He loves the world, its sins notwithstanding. God loves each one of us even when we err and distance ourselves from Him. God the Father so loves the world that, to save it, gave what is most precious to Him: His Only-Begotten Son, who gives his life for men, rises, returns to the Father, and together with Him sends the Holy Spirit. The Trinity, therefore, is Love, altogether at the service of the world, which it wishes to save and recreate. Click here to read our statement on the death of Mr. George Floyd and the sin of racism.
As a Catholic school whose motto is Fortes in Unitate, strength in unity, we believe we must all stand firmly against racism and violence. We echo Pope Francis' words:
My friends, we cannot tolerate or turn a blind eye to racism and exclusion in any form and yet claim to defend the sacredness of every human life. We pray each morning at the Brothers' Mass for the openness to engage in dialogue, for the courage to stand against racism and violence, for the strength to lift our neighbors up if they have fallen. We pray this not only for ourselves, but for all. We believe firmly that all men and women are created in God's image and likeness and deserve the dignity, respect, love, and compassion that this belief confers. We each need to ask ourselves "What more can I do?"
As an educational institution, we will ask ourselves "What more can we do?" I invite you to share with us thoughts you may have on ways we can make our school and our society a truer reflection of the love of the Holy Trinity. You can email us at fortes@chaminade-hs.org.
Fortes in Unitate.
Mary, Mother of God, pray for us!
