After an extensive search, the administration of Chaminade High School announces the appointments for athletic director and assistant athletic director. Mr. John Honerkamp ’93 has been named athletic director, and Mr. Dan Feeney has been named assistant director. President Bro. Thomas Cleary, S.M. ’81 believes that the new team reflects Chaminade’s mission to provide an unparalleled educational experience.
“We are excited for this new chapter in Chaminade athletics,” says Bro. Thomas. “The team will most certainly have the opportunity to shape and grow our athletic program into the future.”
After graduating from Chaminade in 1993, John moved on to St. John’s University, where he ran competitively. He became a professional athlete after graduation. In recent years he has assisted in coaching at Chaminade and many other institutions. He has also worked as a consultant to major athletic brands, such as New Balance and lululemon, guiding their corporate footprints, team training programs, and product development initiatives.
“One of the best decisions of my life was attending Chaminade in 1989,” explained John. “I am honored to give back to an institution that gave me the means to thrive. I look forward to this chapter to serve the Flyer community and partner with Dan in his new role.”
A member of the Chaminade Family for the past 14 years, Dan has been working closely with students as a coach, mentor, teacher, and, most recently, as chairman of the Physical Education Department since 2013.
“Entering this role will allow me to continue my work at Chaminade while partnering with John on some exciting new developments for the athletic program,” says Dan. Acutely aware of the importance of physical wellbeing for our students, Dan will continue to serve as chairman of the Physical Education Department.
John and Dan will continue to work on projects that aim to keep Chaminade at the forefront of high school athletics on Long Island.
