The Flyers did well at their appointed games and matches this weekend. The swimming, hockey, wrestling, and track and field teams all competed in final tournaments.
In a best-of-three series against Fordham Prep, the varsity hockey team finished with a 4-2 victory, adding to a winning first game and thereby clinching the championship.
Meanwhile, Chaminade's wrestling team is celebrating its 3rd-place finish at the CHSAA state qualifying tournament on Staten Island Sunday. Senior captain Connor Llewellyn was among nine place-finishers.
Swimmers earned the league championship match by just 8.5 points over Fordham Prep and advance to the state tournament in three weeks. Newsday was there and has a recap in the Monday morning edition.
Saturday, the winter track and field team competed at the New York State Catholic Championships. The Flyers qualified two athletes for the federation state meet. Dylan Ameres placed 2nd in the long jump and 4th in the triple jump. Kyle Krummenacker placed 4th in the 300-meter dash to earn his spot at the state meet.
