The Chaminade Flyers bowling team achieved its eighth consecutive Catholic League title Thursday, Feb. 7 at Wantagh Lanes.

Taking on St. John the Baptist, Team A got out to an early lead in Game 1. Meanwhile, Team B trailed for most of the game, but snatched victory from their opponents in the final frame to go up by 30 pins. The Cougars calming roaring back in Game 2, winning over our Team A by 15 pins, while Team B was able to add to their pin total.

With the score at 3-to-1, there was still work to be done, and the Flyers went on strike. They averaged 215 pins per man during the final game to leave no doubt and hoist the league championship trophy for the eighth consecutive year. The senior class will graduate without ever having lost a match. The Flyers have won 31 straight matches, are undefeated over the last 64, and have a cumulative record of 112-1-and-1 over an eight year span.

Paul Igel shot a 224 in Game 1 of a 615 series; AJ Rivera shot a 246 in Game 2 of a 645 series; Christian Freel shot a 256 in Game 1 of a 659 series; Matt Capellupo shot a 253 in Game 3 of a 691 series; and Marcus Alaimo was named tournament MVP, shooting a 258 in Game 1 of a 708 series.

All six of our starters have been invited to the league individual tournament, to be held next Thursday at Garden City Lanes.
