Alumni and Development Becomes Office of Advancement

Alumni and Development Becomes Office of Advancement

After a multi-million-dollar campaign combining fundraising efforts for the annual Torch Fund and the new Dolan Family Science, Technology, and Research Center, the Office of Development and Alumni Relations will now be known as the Office of Advancement. Chaminade President Bro. Thomas Cleary believes the change better reflects Chaminade's mission and dynamic growth.

"Fundraising is an important outcome of advancement – not a synonym for it," Bro. Thomas explained. "Advancement is about finding a common cause, building a sense of community around that cause, and determining how it can be used to improve the lives of our young men."

Bro. Richard Hartz, S.M. '59 now becomes director of development emeritus. Hundreds of alumni, perhaps thousands, best know Bro. Richard as the friendly face they see at alumni events – most often with a camera to capture the moments and an unrivaled memory of names and school and personal milestones. He has also taught German at Chaminade, in addition to leading the school's fundraising projects.

"After working with the Chaminade Alumni Association for the past forty years (thirty of them as director) and for the past twenty-four years as Director of Development as well, I am now looking forward to now serving as Director Emeritus of Development and Alumni Relations," Bro. Richard said. "I now look forward to offering my assistance as a mentor to both Chris Hanley and Deborah Kendric as they take over the reins of the department."

Christopher Hanley '80 has been named executive director of advancement. Chris had served as a senior development officer since joining Chaminade in 2015. He has been an active member of the Alumni Association as a member of the board and chairman of the Kick-Off (football) Reunion. Chris oversaw fundraising for the Empowering Our Students, Endowing Our Future comprehensive campaign for the new Dolan Family Science, Technology, and Research Center – a $23 million venture to grow Chaminade's academic commitment.

Chris said, "I am both honored and privileged to have been asked to assume the newly created role of Executive Director of Advancement at Chaminade High School. Our mission will focus on continuing the extraordinary work of Bro.Richard over the last 25 years, to expand and enhance our Flyer network and experience. My primary responsibility will be to ensure the office remains focused on Advancing the Mission of Chaminade High School and safeguarding the integrity and efficacy of the President's initiatives. I look forward to this new and exciting challenge."

Deborah Kendric has been named Chaminade's new director of alumni and parent relations. As assistant director of development and alumni, Deborah has been working closely with graduates since 2011. Her son has just begun his Chaminade experience as a member of the Class of 2022. With her connection to graduates, and now as the parent of a student, she has an acute awareness to the spirit of the Chaminade Family.

"Chaminade is not a four year experience, but rather a life-long experience for the entire family," Deborah said. "We are so fortunate to have an active and supportive alumni association that rivals most colleges. My vision is to continue working side by side with these amazing Flyers to strengthen our network by providing support, activities, and programs that keep everyone connected and engaged. As noted, the Chaminade experience extends to the entire family and our parents are an integral part of our mission. I am very excited to have the opportunity to now work with our treasured parents to continue fostering those everlasting connections to Chaminade."

Bro. Richard, Chris, and Deborah will continue to collaborate on initiatives to keep Chaminade competitive on Long Island and connected to parents and alumni here and across the world.
