Recently, members of the Chaminade Catholic League volunteered at the Mineola Junior Fire Department annual pasta dinner. A favorite community gathering for more than 20 years, the event supports young people age 14-17 with an interest in the fire service.
Chaminade has been a part of the event for much of that time. The pasta dinner is a significant fundraiser for the explorer program.
Junior firefighters are trained in every aspect of fire fighting. They may also ride on the trucks to calls, and, in doing so, allow more senior firefighters to perform critical tasks during emergencies. Juniors may apply to become full members during their senior year of high school, and the Mineola Volunteer Fire Department has welcomed a number of graduates from the program.
