After a cancellation by the Mount Vernon Knights, the Chaminade Junior Varsity Basketball Team rescheduled and suffered a disappointing loss on Saturday, January 26 to the St. Peter’s Eagles from Staten Island.

The Flyers began the game strongly, pacing the offense with a balanced attack with six different players scoring for Chaminade in the first quarter. Towards the ends of the quarter, St. Peter’s started to find its rhythm and ended the first quarter with a three at the buzzer to take the lead, 16-15.

The Flyers kept battling throughout the second quarter with huge contributions from guards Brendan Quinn ’15 and Kevin McNoble ’15, but the Eagles were playing well and headed into halftime with a 30-26 lead.

Sean Clark ’15 led the offense in the third quarter scoring six points. Despite Chaminade’s solid play, the Eagles went into the last quarter with a nine point lead, and within the first few minutes of the fourth they looked to put the game away. The Flyers made a huge run, which was capped off by a key three from Sal Fradella ’15, to shave the deficit to 52-47; however, the Flyers fell short, with a final score of 60-50.

“We definitely could have given a better effort on the defensive end,” said guard Ed Fred ’15. “We also need to play a lot smarter, and we’re going to be looking to bounce back against St. Dominic’s.”
