The Chaminade J.V. Basketball Team had one of their biggest games of the season on Friday, January 18, at home against none other than their premier rival, St. Anthony’s.  The Flyers started off the game slowly, and starting guards Brendan Kearns ’15 and Kevin McNoble ’15 were inconsistent from the field as the Friars raced to an early lead. As the second quarter progressed, the home team settled in and starting wingman Tom Tubridy ’15 revitalized the Flyers with his strong offensive play. However, the Friars responded with several three-pointers and went into half time with a relatively comfortable lead.

The third quarter started and the Flyers looked like a different squad coming out of the gate. Guard Brendan Quinn ’15 provided a huge lift off the bench with his playmaking, and he helped set up a 17-point game on offense by forward Matt Johnson ’15.

“Hitting my first few shots felt good, and as the game went on my shot got stronger and my teammates set me up great,” said Johnson. The Flyers sealed the comeback in the fourth quarter and finished on top with a final score of 59-52.

“The energy of the crowd really helped us, because we were down in the first half,” said Matt Johnson ’15. Coming out of the locker room, however, we knew that we weren’t going to lose this game, and everything worked out for us in the end.”

The Flyers’ next game is against Mount Vernon on Saturday, January 26.
