PARENT, CLASS OF 2018

In our faith, we are taught that the seed that falls on good ground will yield a fruitful harvest. As a proud member of the Chaminade family, we are so grateful for the rich soil Chaminade has provided our son, Frank, to grow and flourish. It is through Chaminade’s focus on faith, fellowship and intellectual nourishment that our boys are able to thrive.

Living in Stony Brook, we embraced our commitment to provide this opportunity for Frank. As Frank enters his senior year, we can say, without hesitation, that this experience has been so enriching to our son and family. Our boys are conversant in their faith. Not only can they discuss Bible passages and their meaning, but also, they celebrate their faith as a community. Prayer and reflection are a part of the social experience. It brings the boys together in a way makes faith relatable and tangible to them. We get great joy logging onto Facebook during the day and seeing that Frank is celebrating mass as a part of his school day, or staying after each Monday for Sodality to discuss issues facing teens. Chaminade has given this tremendous gift to our sons as they go into the world as fathers, husbands and friends.

The fellowship of the Chaminade community is very special and unique. The school offers many opportunities to become a part of the Chaminade family through mass celebrations and numerous sponsored events. For our family, becoming involved with the Parents’ Club has been a wonderful way to meet others and give back to a school that has given us so much. We began volunteering at the beautiful retreat house, Meribah. This peaceful space offered us prayerful contemplation and a way to connect to other parents who shared their friendship and experiences with loving ease. We have proudly served on the Parents’ Club Board enjoying all of the many events it sponsors during the year. We leave each event impressed by the group of people we are so blessed to call friends.

“Chaminade’s Chinese language department made Frank very competitive for the United States Department of State scholarship that he was awarded to study Chinese in Shanghai, China, this summer . . . we know that our son would not be growing at this level if it were not for Chaminade.”

The education at Chaminade is unparalleled. In a day and age where our boys are tempted by the many devices in their lives, the Chaminade curriculum pushes the boys to do their best and be conversant on a wide range of topics. For Frank, Chaminade offered him the dream opportunity to study the Chinese language. There are very few high schools that offer this language. Chaminade’s Chinese language department made Frank very competitive for the United States Department of State scholarship that he was awarded to study Chinese in Shanghai, China, this summer. We are so grateful for this opportunity and we know that our son would not be growing at this level if it were not for Chaminade.

We reflect on the past three years with great love and pride to be a part of the Chaminade community. While it is impressive that our boys can discuss Chaucer, speak Chinese or spot the participial phrase, it is even more impressive that they run to hold the door open for you or take the time to help a friend in need or choose to spend a weekend away on retreat. They are gentlemen, groomed in love and nourished in faith. Thank you Chaminade for the rich soil that you have provided for our boys to grow and may God bless the brothers and faculty dedicated to our boys’ well-being.
